You cannot directly control the main units within Battle Ages, but each unit has a primary target that it will focus on. For example, mounted units (such as the Chariot and the Knight) will target defensive buildings first but skirmishing units (such as the Thief and Partisan) will target coin generation and storage buildings first. Use a combination of units dependent on what you want to achieve and this will give you much more control over your attacks.
